Maharaja Movie Review: Maharaj is a Tamil-language action thriller film from India set to release in 2024. Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Raam Murali, the film is produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios.

Vijay Sethupathi stars in the lead role, with a cast including Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami Gopikumar, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Sachana Namidass, Manikandan, and Bharathiraja.

The movie was first announced in February 2023, initially referred to as VJS50, marking Sethupathi’s 50th film as a lead actor. Filming started the same month and mostly took place in Chennai. The official title was revealed in July when the filming was completed, and Think Studios joined as a co-producer. The film features music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman, and editing by Philomin Raj.

Yesterday, I had the incredible experience of watching what I can confidently call the best movie I’ve ever seen. Featuring the exceptional Vijay Sethupathi, this film is a thrilling masterpiece that gripped me from beginning to end. Every aspect of the movie came together flawlessly to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Plot of the Movie

Maharaja, a quiet barber in Chennai, loses his wife when a truck hits their house. His daughter, Jothi, is saved by a dustbin they name “Lakshmi.” Years later, Maharaja reports to the police that Lakshmi has been stolen, amusing them. He claims an armed gang raided his house, took Lakshmi, and offers a ₹5 lakh bribe for their capture. The police reluctantly agree and involve Nallasivam, an informant.
